Best Feature of Trail: The views of the slides on the side of Mt. Colden are spectacular.
Animal Signs: woodpecker holes, scats, etc.
Sights: In the fall lots of mushrooms, fungus and "conchs" on fallen trees. In summer he summit is one of the few high peaks that has alpine tundra flowers.
Hike Description: The trail starts through forest up and down at first and then climbing steadily. You cross many small small streams. You will climb up steep rock steps, pass a waterfall, and keep climbing steadily. At mile 3 you will pass the trail up Wright. Now you will be climbing steeply and often on smooth rock (which can be icy in winter and spring). You will reach treeline and have to follow rock piles (cairns) and paint blazes to the top. Stay on rock and avoid treading on fragile alpine plants.
